crash - Windows 7 Freezes (No BSOD)

It looks like Windows 7 (x64) froze on me at 8:30AM this morning (I found it like this almost 12 hours later). No blue screen, just frozen. It looks like the screen was a darker than normal, almost as if it froze perhaps before the UAC screen was going to appear (no idea why it would, I wasn't using the computer) or maybe it was going to go into screen saver mode.

This happened about a week ago as well.

I'm currently looking to update all of my drivers in case that's the culprit.

Last event log entry was at 8:28:47AM : "The Computer Browser service entered the stopped state." Looking at the log it looks like the Computer Browser starts roughly every 2-3 minutes, so I suppose that can be a culprit as well.

Any idea on what I can do to find out what's causing the issue? Unfortunately no core dump since a BSOD did not occur. Its really frustrating when you're left with so few clues.

UPDATE (JAN 16 2010)

After a couple of months of not having issues, my computer started freezing again. This time however, I was able to replicate the problem.

Using FireFox, on Twitter using PowerTweet, if I scroll up and down multiple times (or even use page up/down keys) I am able to get Windows 7 to freeze (again not BSOD, just frozen... to the point where even caps lock or num lock don't light up on keyboard).

I'm not sure if the real problem is FF or if it just more easily manifests itself using FF. I'm also not sure if the problem is really PowerTweet, or if its the fact that PT expands multiple Flash Videos (maybe the problem is Flash?).

Either way, the most I'd expect is FF to crash, not the entire computer. What do you guys think:

1. Software problem (FF or Flash)


2. Video card problem (hardware or driver)


3. Mouse driver problem (because it happens on scroll... although the bug did manifest itself through page down key so I doubt it)


4. Windows 7 bug

Further info: I've tried to update as many drivers as I could... video card, chipset, audio, etc. So if its a driver issue, then unfortunately its probably not fixed yet.

macos - Mac OSX boot option missing after Bootcamp and Installation of Windows 8.1 and BitLocker

A user has the most recent MacBook Pro, we've installed Mac OS X, and then Boot Camp and Windows 8.1 Professional, and enabled BitLocker (which obviously re-arranged the Windows partitions). We are no longer given the option to boot the Mac OSX Partition. Is there any way we can get it back?

windows 7 - How photorec works in recovering files?

This is in relation to my previous question here, but since it involves the program itself, I'm asking this separately for those who may use photorec.

I'm currently running photorec to recover files from the HDD with corrupt MBR. As I've never used it before, I've a few questions:

   Never had a scan running this long. The drive's size is 750 GB, it's been scanning for 12 hours and only -30% is complete. The HD is warm and been running throughout this time. Is the extremely long process normal?

   Do results appear during or after scan? Currently no files are appearing in the display. I'm running photorec on Windows 7, the interface is clean and simple but the window is a big white blank. I unchecked most the checkboxes, which means it should search only for file types I specified. It's been 12 hrs and close to 30% in, shouldn't stuff appear by now?

   What will happen if the data recovered is more than the size of the drive I set to be recovered to? The size of the drive I'm recovering from is 750 GB and I'm recovering to a flashdrive of 64 GB. I believe the data I want to recover does not exceed 64 GB, but what happens if it does, will I have to re-scan to recover again?

What is the best SVN GUI interface program for Linux?

I am new to Linux from being a Windows base. For Windows I use Tortoise SVN and I need to know what is the Linux version.

It might not be quite what you're used to, but the command line interface is really worth learning. It's not very difficult, and the process could even help you better understand what SVN is doing. It's really quick and understanding how it works makes integrating it into your build process or other scripts a breeze.

If you'd prefer a GUI the common options are usually integration with your IDE (Subclipse) or RapidSVN, though I don't have much experience with either.

Add shared OneDrive folder to my OneDrive for Business and not my OneDrive

I am collaborating with several other people on a project for work. We want to use OneDrive to manage the file sharing. I have received an invitation to share and edit a folder from one of my collaborators. When I click on "Add to My OneDrive" or "Add to my shared list", I am prompted to log in to my Microsoft account. When I try to log in with my Office365/OneDrive for Business credentials given to me by my employer, I get the error that it is not a valid Microsoft account/password.

I do not want to mix my personal and work OneDrives. I also expect that this project might exceed the free OneDrive space allocated to my Microsoft Live account, which began its existence as an Xbox Live account. This account also does not have full Office 365 access. How can I get this folder to be added to my OneDrive for Business and not my OneDrive? Is there a way from within OneDrive for Business (or the client) to open a shared link directly after I have logged in?

file sharing - Use windows' SMB to share folder over the internet?

I wonder if there are any program that can share a folder over the internet using smb? I know that windows has smb file sharing, but it only works on LAN.
